Dear Trojan

Got a good one? Email us a question (or ask on Facebook), we'll answer all those questions you've been thinking about for years. And if the Trojan can't answer it, no one can!

Pat Schmidt recalled "We've Only Just Begun" was our class song, she followed up with a very intriguing question, "What were the other songs in the running?"

Well Pat, this is a tough one. We had a class vote, and I recall only one other song option "If You Remember Me" from the movie The Champ. I'm having a tough time remembering other song options; hoping if any of our classmates remember, they'll let us know.

Pat, I want to thank you for your compelling question. As I was humming "We've Only Just Begun," I quickly remembered Bob Colby sang "We've Only Just Begun" at our senior class banquet, held at the Eagle's Ballroom on May 16, 1980; we enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner, and danced to Datillo at the end of the night.

Four hard-working committees handled all the preparations for our memorable senior banquet. Dawn Scmick led our Decorations Committee; Janice Wierzbicki chaired our Program and Tickets Committee; Joan Huser (Joan also led our Invocation) headed up our Awards Committee; and Lisa Paielli managed our Publicity Committee. Our committee chairpersons and all their members rocked an unforgettable evening.

Pat, I don't know if you recall our stellar class officers: Greg Formella, President; Wes Ricchio, Vice-President; Maureen Braig, Secretary; and Kurt Sorensen, Treasurer. You'd probably enjoy knowing our class colors are ivory and gold, and our class flower is the rose.

I hope that helps, Pat, and you'll continue to be a proud Trojan!

Lori Fulmer had a great question regarding Trojan Tales "Where are the women of the show?"

Dear Lori, your observation is very helpful, we are happy you brought that to our attention, and maybe others are thinking the same thing. We are working very hard to get as many involved as possible. Since you are living in New Jersey, we would love to have you as our first long distance Trojan Tales caller; you are a great story teller and your recall of Tremper days is priceless! Let's talk.

Bernadette Becker asked an interesting question "How many in our graduating class?" It got me thinking.

Thanks Bernadette, we had 747 graduating classmates, although, we are estimating that over 900 attended Tremper from our year. Our graduation was the 16th graduating class, and some of my memories include Jeff Rusk leading the pledge of allegiance, followed by Dawn Stavlo's Invocation, then Larry Martin reminding us “we learned to become individuals, accepting each other for what we were, not for what we wanted each other to be,” and Sylvia Llanas challenging us to dare to be ourselves, oh, and Greg Formella impressing upon us to “look forward with vigor to what is ahead,” and then, wrapping up our ceremony, Lucy Jackson giving us a stirring Benediction. That’s all I can remember, hope that answers your question.

A great first question from Lori Fulmer: Where was Pub-n-Grub?

Hi Lori, It was on north 22nd ave a mile north of Casa Capri. It opened in 1972, Alan Ameche (Kenosha/Bradford Legend) was a partner I believe. They had his Heismann Trophy on display behind the bar.

We rocked/disco’d there 1978-1980. Wednesday nights were quarter beer nights (25 cent) usually Hamms, Schlitz or whatever stale kegs they had leftover.

Our classmate Sue Half worked in the Tremper attendance office and said the regular ladies staff always shook their heads/rolled eyes regarding the spike in call in-sicks and tardies every Thursday morning from our fabulous ‘80 Class!
